Origins and Significance
La Mercè Festival has its roots in medieval times when Barcelona faced various hardships, including plagues and invasions. According to legend, Mare de Déu de la Mercè appeared in a dream to King Jaume I, promising to protect the city. In gratitude, the king declared Mare de Déu de la Mercè the patron saint of Barcelona, and since then, the city has celebrated her feast day with fervor and devotion. Today, La Mercè Festival has evolved into a vibrant celebration of Catalan culture, featuring a diverse array of events and activities.

The breathtaking displays of light and color create unforgettable memories for all who witness them.
