BARCELONA BEACHES

Barcelona's beaches are among the best in Spain, whether for thrilling water sports or relaxing on the sand with the murmur of the waves. Along Barcelona's coastline, there is a promenade that runs along all the beaches, from Llevant in the north to Sant Sebastià in the south.

1 - BARCELONETA BEACH

Barceloneta beach is the best-known and busiest beach in Barcelona. With a length of 1,100 metres, it is one of the longest beaches in Barcelona. It is closely linked to the seafaring neighbourhood that gives it its name, Barceloneta, a good place to enjoy fish and seafood. The beach offers plenty of space to relax or have fun playing tennis or volleyball. There are also lifeguards, so you won't have to worry when you or the little ones take a dip.

2 - SOMORROSTRO BEACH

It is located between the Hospital del Mar and Carrer de la Marina and has recently been renamed in homage to the Somorrostro shanty town which, after a hundred years of life, was demolished on the occasion of Franco's visit to Barcelona in 1966. Somorrostro beach is very central and its easy access by public transport makes it one of the favourite beach areas for young locals and foreign users.

3 - SANT MIQUEL BEACH
It is located between the beaches of Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta and is a central and very lively beach which, despite its small size, is one of the busiest spots on the city's coastline. Sant Miquel beach is one of the oldest in the city and is 420 metres long.

4 - SANT SEBASTIÀ BEACH
Located next to Sant Miquel Beach, Sant Sebastià Beach is one of the largest and oldest beaches in Barcelona. Would you like to know a curiosity about this beach? Sant Sebastià beach was used by the city's elite in the 19th century. It was the first to allow men and women to bathe on the same beach.

5 - NOVA ICÀRIA BEACH
Nova Icària beach is 415 metres long and is one of the beaches located in the centre of the city's coastline. It is one of the beaches with the longest length of stay by users, possibly because it is considered one of the quietest in the city.

6 - BOGATELL BEACH
Bogatell beach is approximately 702 metres long and is one of the beaches that acquired a new quality when Barcelona's seafront was restored in the 1990s. On this beach, you'll find several leisure facilities, such as: two ping-pong tables, a football pitch and a volleyball area.

7 - MAR BELLA BEACH
Mar Bella beach is located to the east of Barcelona's coastline and is 512 metres long. It is one of the beaches created as a result of the urban redevelopment of the coastline in 1992 for the Barcelona Olympic Games. It has an area for naturists and attracts a cosmopolitan public from all walks of life, including sports enthusiasts and students from nearby colleges.

8 - NOVA MAR BELLA BEACH
Nova Mar Bella Beach is approximately 420 metres long and is considered one of the quietest in the city. Like the neighbouring Mar Bella, this beach is the result of the urban renewal of the coastline that took place on the occasion of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. This beach has a volleyball court located halfway along.

9 - LLEVANT BEACH
Llevant beach is located next to Nova Mar Bella and is the last of the beaches created on Barcelona's coastline. This beach is approximately 375 metres long and was incorporated into the city in the summer of 2006.
